Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority - All-University

About

Kappa Kappa Gamma (ΚΚΓ), also known simply as Kappa or KKG, is an internationally-renowned Panhellenic sorority founded in 1870 with values of knowledge, trailblazing, truth, connection, optimism, and respect.

ABOUT

With members from a variety of diverse backgrounds, our sisters are bonded by our shared values and the ritual of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Members’ commitment to friendship, leadership, scholarship, and service is lived out through our sisterhood, social, educational, philanthropic, and academic programming throughout the year. We are an ambitious, intelligent, and compassionate group of women who balance the rigorous academics of New York University with the thrilling and fun opportunities that New York City has to offer. Serving as a vital support system and community for each other, Kappa is our foundation for endless success.

HISTORY

Kappa Psi Delta was a local chapter founded in 1998 that spent 13 years at NYU. In April 2011, the women of KPsiD decided to affiliate with Kappa Kappa Gamma. On November 5th, 2011, our chapter was installed as KKG’s 138th chapter and 20 active members were initiated to become the Eta Pi charter class. In the nine years since our installation, we have grown to be an organization of over 130 women.

ACADEMICS

Joining a sorority in college is a life-changing experience, but garnering an education is the top priority for Kappa. This is why our chapter is expected to maintain - and consistently achieves - academic standards higher than the NYU all-sorority GPA. Each member is expected to contribute to the overall GPA of the chapter. If a Kappa struggles academically, we help her through it. The Academic Excellence Committee meets with her to craft an improvement plan using study tactics and time management. We want each sister to leave college with what they came for: a degree. Library study rooms, which we reserve for Sunday nights after chapter and the weeks surrounding finals, give girls a quiet place to study. Our chapter also uses an Owl Pal program, pairing a new member up with an older member in a similar major/field of study. This allows girls to study together and get advice related to their major. We host an annual alumnae networking event, Keyed-In, which allows collegiate sisters to meet and connect with sisters who are five, ten, or twenty years into their careers! Many sisters find internships, jobs, and mentors through this event.

OUR HOUSE

Our chapter resides on the penthouse floor of the Lafayette Residence Hall. For the last two years, we have been selected among the Panhellenic and Inter-fraternity organizations on a basis of academic achievement, leadership, and extracurricular activities to live in the largest penthouse! Seven sisters are selected to reside in the suite that features high ceilings and beautiful views.

SISTERHOOD

Ask anyone in Kappa and they'll tell you how much they love their sisters. We'd do anything for each other - the girls in our chapter are our future bridesmaids and forever best friends! Fun sisterhood events include Sunday brunches in the penthouse, supporting NYU at sporting events, visiting other Kappa chapters at nearby schools, photoshoots with stores around NYC, and movie nights. We travel the world together and love spending time with each other!

SOCIAL

Mixers, Date Parties, Semi Formals, and our Sapphire Ball Formal are some of our favorite events as Kappas. Dancing the night away at venues across New York City, social events are a great way to dress up and have fun with sisters and our dates. Kappa participates in a number of mixers each year, where we pair up with a fraternity, dress up in costumes, and enjoy a night of socializing and dancing together at various amazing venues in Manhattan. Mixers are some of KKG’s favorite social events and a great way to get to know different Greek organizations!

PANHELLENIC

We love being part of the greater Panhellenic community - no matter what the letter we're all Greek together! On the 2020 Panhellenic Executive Board, our sister served as VP of Recruitment Counselors.
